Small hills, southern exposure, dry climate, and
clay-limestone soil, form the terroir of
Domaine du Bosc. Resulting from the recession of the sea
thousands of years ago, the sediments compose a very sandy soil.
The many fossils are evidence of an era that saw the region covered
by the sea. The legacy of this era is a sandy soil composed of
tuff, clay and rocks that creates a well drained foundation for the
vines. Their roots reach deep into the soil to the abundant
underground reserves of water. They share this terrain with a
variety of flora, including fruit trees, almond and olive trees,
Mediterranean and Umbrella pines, and Cypress trees.

In keeping with the
momentum of
the Languedoc region, le Domaine du Bosc
has made the changes essential to satisfy the evolving expectations
of consumers. Traditionally a source of warmth and comfort to
the rural population, the position of wine in today’s society has
changed dramatically since the last century. While the consumption
of wine has decreased over the last four decades, the increasingly
educated wine consumer demands a more sophisticated beverage to
satisfy his palate. This demand has provided the impetus for the
replacement of older undesirable cépages with finely cultivated
ones, adapted to produce wines of quality and character in a
particular terrain. Le Domaine du Bosc is dedicated to a
policy of
regular re-plantation
to ensure that the priority always lies with the essential raw
material:
the grapes.

The
estate’s 65 hectares are home to a wide range of cépages, including
such classics as
Syrah, Grenache and old Carignan. Also present are
Merlot, Tempranillo, and Chardonnay. The continuity of each
varietal is ensured by re-plantation, while care is taken to
maintain the senior vines, some of which exceed 60 years in age and
produce the choicest fruit. Throughout every change that le Domaine
du Bosc undergoes, the essential mentality remains the same: even if
every other factor is perfect, you will never produce a good wine if
you do not use good, healthy grapes. We make it our priority to
dedicate ourselves to the care and special attention of our vines.

At no time is the
variety of cépages more noticeable than in autumn, after the
harvest. All of the labor of the previous year has culminated in
the production of the best grapes that the vine has to offer, and
now the vines prepare for the winter. Their leaves begin to
turn, and the distinct shades of each cépage form a dazzling array
of infinite color. Over the winter the vine replenishes
itself, creating reserves upon which it will draw throughout the
spring and summer of its next cycle. While the autumn is the time
for the most beautiful and colorful scenery,
it is also the time to be in the cellar, making wine.
